An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a report that shows the energy efficiency of a property, giving it a rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) and is valid for 10 years. It includes information about the property's energy use, costs, and suggestions on how to lower energy consumption and costs. Sellers and landlords must have a valid EPC before selling or renting a property. Estate agents and letting agents are also required to show the EPC when advertising the property. Failing to do so can result in a fine. EPCs of other properties can be searched for free, allowing homeowners to compare their home's energy performance with similar properties. EPCs are provided by a Domestic Energy Assessor who must be accredited. To improve energy efficiency in a home, draft-proofing, insulation, double glazing, energy-efficient lighting, and installing renewable energy systems are recommended.
